The Yum Yums – Sweet As Candy – (Kid Tested Records)
– I never really thought about it until I received “Sweet as Candy”, but The Yum Yum’s sound a lot like The Parasites. Fittingly, this album (which is pretty much a “best of” album) is released by Dave Parasites record Label, Kid Tested. “Sweet as Candy” is a cleaner, brighter, more satisfying sound that doesn’t drain the essential edge, and the large harmonies that submerge every single last one of these 25 tracks.
This album is guaranteed to appeal to anyone who has ever been in love with a girl and that has had your brain in a tornado of emotions. Almost every song on here is about a relationship with a girl from a sour to sweet perspective one-way or another. The Yum Yum’s chew this bubble gum pop styled pop punk and blow a big bubble of boppy, lovely dovey, love sick songs from start to finish. If this sounds like a cupid’s arrow for your heart, then all of this can be found on Sweet as Candy along with some of the catchiest pop-punk to come out in years, no matter how many times this has been done before. The Yum Yums have been around for a while now, but because of their home base of Norway they are still pretty underrated and under-heard by the average Pop Punkster. The one slight draw back to Sweet as Candy, is that the tempo of each songs tends to (for the most part) stay at the same pace and lacks variety from song to song. This is a minor drawback, but still something that would make this a flawless album.
