Suburban Hostage – “Unified theory of critical thinking”

Suburban Hostage – “Unified theory of critical thinking”

Suburban Hostage – “Unified theory of critical thinking” – This four song intro to Suburban Hostage really reminds me of the old Good Riddance demo. It’s heavily politically charged without being preachy, lead by hammering drums, and slightly scratchy melodic skate punk vocals. Much like the Good Riddance demo songs, Suburban Hostage takes a cornucopia [...]

Carbomb Creepshow – “Dr. Seuss and the Acid Factory EP”

Carbomb Creepshow – “Dr. Seuss and the Acid Factory EP”

Carbomb Creepshow – “Dr. Seuss and the Acid Factory EP” – Super Fast, but musically & lyrically understandable. Raw, but calculated, plain old high speed, no frills, energy filled punk rock. Since the last time I heard Carbomb Creepshow (They were pretty rough and the recording was horrible), they seem to of practiced [...]

Stolen from Yahoo News….

SAINT PETERSBURG (AFP) – Brashly shouting out his lyrics in crowded, smoky clubs, Alexei Nikonov zeroes in on provocative themes that most musicians here ignore — authoritarianism and injustice in today’s Russia.
Nikonov, the outspoken singer of Saint [...]

Black America – “We’re Like Trash Talk But Good”

Black America – “We’re Like Trash Talk But Good”

lack America – “We’re Like Trash Talk But Good” Black America make punk rock like it was originally intended. They’re a byproduct of; snotty, trashy, and offensive combination of rejects thrown into a pile of instruments. The vocals are scratchy, off key, and at times shouted too loud for the microphone, the instruments are [...]

Interview with Jake Kolatis of The Casualties

Interview with Jake Kolatis of The Casualties

In 1990, The Casualties started out with an idea was to return to the “Gold Age” of street punk which they felt that had been none existent since 1985. The Casualties took their high-energy street punk out of the gutter and into a long career of producing album after album and traveling thousands of miles a year to pursue their passion. To date the Casualties have put out seven full length albums (Along with 3 EPs, 3 Live albums and were included on 10 compilations), with their eighth full length album, We are all we have, about to hit the streets August 25, 2009, on SideOneDummy Records. The guitarist of The Casualties since 1993, Jake Kolatis took some time to sit down and talk about We are all we have, touring the world, and the misconception some people have about street punks.

Some Skank – “Sing Sing/Punk Punk”

Some Skank – “Sing Sing/Punk Punk”

Some Skank – “Sing Sing/Punk Punk” – Some Skank is a basic female street punk sounding band. Musically, they are little droning at times with basic bass beats. The vocals switch between two singers. One of the singers voice is extremely high pitched, like a Muppet on speed and pierces your brain like a red [...]

JFA – “To All Our Friends” (DC Jam Records)

JFA – “To All Our Friends” (DC Jam Records)

strong>JFA – “To All Our Friends” (DC Jam Records) – To be honest I thought this album was a re-mastered and re-issued live album. From what DC Jam Records says this is the first album released from this legendary skate punk band, since 1999. JFA has that early California skate punk sound from the [...]

Japanese Monsters – “Super Invasion Party”

Japanese Monsters – “Super Invasion Party”

strong>Japanese Monsters – “Super Invasion Party” – I’ve had this record for a while. Like 6 months now. It’s pretty varied. There’s some up-tempo garage rock style songs, then there some instant classic poppy east-bay/lookout style punk songs that just blow me away; those remind me of the best part about Punkin’ [...]

The Spears – “Shove“

The Spears – “Shove“

he Spears – “Shove“ – I’ve been hearing from Dave Johnson of Jailhouse! Records about how amazing this album is for what seems like a year. Granted you would expect the owner of a label to hype once of his label’s releases, so you have to take that type of hype lightly. That being said, [...]
