The Vapids –“Charm School Drop Outs” – 3/5 – (originally released 2001 and has been released in 2009 by Surfin’ Ki) I’m going to cut the cutesy word play and shoot straight from the hip. I don’t know why, but I just can’t get into this album at all. I guess the way the guitar & vocals combine with little variation or hooks. When you combine that with the simplicity of the lyrics the entire album just drones on and bores me as if it was one long song. That’s not to say that there aren’t songs that are decent; it’s just that none of them really possess much individuality that makes them memorable either. There’s the obvious Ramones influence which many pop punk bands fall victim to and allow for too much of that influence to take over their music and overpower their own sound.
