Kung Fu Devils / The Posuers – “Dancehell Music” spli

Kung Fu Devils / The Posuers – “Dancehell Music” split– 3/5 – As far as Kung Fu Devils portion of the split goes, the vocals in “Better Than A Thousand “ & “Straight Outta Dildocore “almost ruined it for me. Being as I listened to those songs first I liked the deep trash riffs of the guitar, the hard pounding 1000 mph drum beats, but the vocals have too much of a trash metal growl undertone during those songs. Then I was glad I waited and listed to each song because I was surprised by the vocals in “Auld Lang Syne” ,“Boiling Point” & “Town Of The Neutron Bomb Explosion”) they take on more of a hardcore punk rock tone mixed with some heavy gang vocals, along with the riffs and beats listed earlier. The songs then remind me a little of old JFA and/or DRI.
The Posuers portion of “Dancehell Music” is a completely different Jeckle and Hyde of music as well. The songs have some speedy ska beats and bouncy leads with a mix of harder edged ska vocals that sound very good, but then for some reason the vocals turn into Screamo growls. I was digging their songs until the screamo vocals kicked in and then I just couldn’t stomach any of the songs. It’s a shame the potential was all there and then the ugly head of bad vocals struck. Overall the split is high energy and entertaining, but it definitely takes an acquired taste to keep this entire album on from beginning to end.
