Stuck Lucky definitely makes their punk influences take the forefront to the ska sound that they throw out there. At times the horns can be a little over powering and annoying, but overall I was surprised of the solid punk edge that most of the songs on this album have. Once I say that, a horribly Hot Topic-core type song pops up (“DBH, Too” – fucking awful!!!) and I’m reminded of the rollercoaster ride I’m on with this review.
Peeks (Worth listening to) =
Flight Of The Taco Monster
Babies In The River
Unicorn Family Picnic
D-D-D-Devastation
If You Are What You Eat, I’ll Be You By Tomorrow
Valleys (Worth avoiding) =
DBH, Too
The Flies/Wake Up And Thrash
Dance Of A Thousand Switchblades
I Stole A Possum’s Heart (1:50 Instrumental intro WTF?)
Filler (They’re, there)=
Deep Black Hole
Lightning In My Thunderstorm (obviously supposed to be)
Officer Down
Paint These Walls(Sounds unmastered)

This is one of the best ska-core albums ever recorded, I wouldn’t say there are any low points on it at all, but it’s understandable if people who aren’t too into the hardcore-ska genre don’t like it. I’d say the best songs on here are “The Flies/Wake Up And Thrash”, “Paint These Walls”, and “Babies In The River”, but they’re all good in my opinion.
This album is untouchable! How can you say “Instrumentals are a waste of album space”??? It makes me feel like you know nothing about music history or theory which is what any person who plans to review music should know, I do not care if its Punk Rock, Jazz or ska. A basic appreciation and understanding for all music is necessary. There is a lot to be said about a band that can make an instrumental track complex and interesting, and I defiantly think that stuck pulled it off with skill.
Basically, I think you are a moron who should find a new past time, one maybe you are more educated on and good at.
:]
Mary Jane it’s his OPINION. You have no idea for a person’s backround with music or what they like other than punk by reading a review. Just because they don’t like what YOU like doesn’t mean they are a moron. I do agree with you though this album is untouchable, meaning I wouldn’t touch it to put it in my cd player. And I do love ska.
His opinion yes, and that was mine :]
Jenn.
This band is paving a road. Whether you like it or not you have to admit this is new, different and inspirational.
I have to agree with Mary Jane, to say that instrumentals are a waste of space just shows an embarassing lack of understanding. And to the reviewer, you lost all credibility in my eyes when you used the term “WTF” in your review. I don’t mind that you didn’t like some parts of the album, that’s fine, but the writing ability and music knowledge you’ve demonstrated in this review is not of the standard required for a reviewer.
After reading this review I feel like the reviewer didn’t even listen to the album. The horns are not over-powering and come in at the right times. There are no “screamo” vocals on this album. Yes, he’s screaming, but its nothing that isn’t typical for hardcore punk.
The punk is a lot stronger than the ska, though Stuck Lucky throws in the ska at appropriate times. And as for your thoughts on instrumentals being a waste of space on an album… I just can’t help but think that you know nothing about music. Spit in the air and it’ll land on an album that has an instrumental track on it.
I was also expecting to be disappointed with this album for no reason at all, but after giving it a few listens it is fast becoming one of my favorites. Its an all around great album. I understand that the instrumental tracks might be less desirable for some, but I personally, look forward to the instrumental tracks. Its a track to appreciate all the musicians in the band without the singer who would normally make or break the song. I love the combination of sound that is used on this album, but also the consistency of the roots of the music. Honestly, I am not a huge fan of screaming vocals, but in this case I find a lure about them. Its rough enough for the style, but still comprehensible and almost soft around the edges. I look forward to future releases from Stuck Lucky.
DUDE!… you pissed off many w/ this review… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!… CONGRATS!
