Astpai – “Corruption Concealed under deceptive slogans”
Astpai – “Corruption Concealed under deceptive slogans” – Astpai is contaminating the aggression and intelligence of Kid Dynamite's eponymous influence with their own style, while watering down the adrenaline rush of the music ever so slightly. That said, all of the hallmarks in the band's East Coast hardcore punk sound are still very much in place, and the distinctions that sets Astpai apart from other east coast hardcore bands is the combination of melodic hardcore (ex..Kid Dynamite, Lifetime, Paint It Black) the menacing tempo chances of old school NYHC (ex..Gorilla Biscuits, Agnositc Front, GBH) and vocals that flash between hardcore and screamo. While I’m honestly not a fan of the screamo vocals what so ever, all the other components of Astpai are truly great. There is a solid chemistry in their sound and unrelentless passion poured into every note and word that flows through my speakers. When the singers voice is toned down a few notches I enjoy his voice (ex, Hard To Manage Broken Windows) and could see myself listening to Astpai quite a bit. So while I can’t say that I like the vocals most of the time, there is no way in hell that I can say one bad thing about this album. “Corruption Concealed under deceptive slogans” possesses every component that a great album is formulated from. Sharp and powerful riffs, bouncy basslines, pounding drums and a frontman that pulls you in and hypnotizes you with his presence. Yup this is one bad ass CD that demands your attention.
