FN Punks – “Live at the Hinge”

FN Punks – “Live at the Hinge”  - Honestly, I have reservations about the idea of reviewing a live Cd for the first time I listen to a band. Usually live CD’s aren’t the best sound quality and since I’ve never heard them before what can I compare them against. I mean do they always sound like this, was this a “good” night or an “off” night, did they mean to be off time or is it just fucked up? So many questions and distractions, it just takes a lot of enjoyment out of listening to a new band for the first time. With that disclaimer out there I’m interested to hear what FN Punks has to offer.

To start the vocals are drowned out quite a bit and the guitar sound is a little over powering, but all in all, FN Punks has some potential. They did a decent live cover of “Monster Mash” that with a better recording or studio time could be very good. Unfortunately, a few of the other songs with the live recording just get lost in the overwhelming sound of the guitar. A good example is,  “Metal Stability” which sounds like a decent song, but with the vocals being drowned out  and the distortion of the live recording there is just too much going on to really get into it.

So I think FN Punks sounds like a decent band to check out live and has potential to be a band I would listen to on a semi-frequent basis, but to be fair until I have a less “busy” recording to check out I’ll have to reserve judgment before I give a thumbs up or down.
