No Risk, Paid In Full, One Cent Spent, Fortiez, & Wish For Wings

No Risk - "The Great Demise" - These Jersey Boys know how to add the Punk to Rock. This CD is lyricaly a very well thought out and has well rounded reflection of the Punk scene. It includes political statements towards the government, the punk "scene", religion, and everyday life. No Risk is one of those bands that doesn't fit a particular sub-genre of punk, they are just a Punk Band. On "The Great Demise"  each  songs seems to have a slightly different sound. The quality of the CD's sound is excellent and hard to believe it is a DIY production. My favorite song "The Great Demise" is, "We'll take it from here". Check them out at www.norisknj.com

Wish For Wings- "From the past to the grave"- I don't know what people hear in this band. I've tried listening to them at least twice and think they just suck really bad. Hey, I never claimed to have very broad musical horizons, but I know crap when I hear it.. Oh yeah, the point here is that this band has this crap CD out "From the past to the grave." I should have known by their name, but holly shit is it bad. The music is some deep down  grrrr, gutwrenching screamo bullshit. Don't waist your time or money.

Fortiez -"Something About The Bahamas" - The BEST little punk band out of Helsinki, Finland! Fortiez really reminds me of (a slightly faster version of) Operation Ivy. I, like many have been an OP IVY fan since their one and only release. Hearing anything even close to them gets me as excited as a fat kid on Halloween. The vocals are bouncy & addictive with solid guitar leads, & amazing drum beats. As I write this review I listen to Fortiez and can't help but get pumped about this incredible CD. Like many european punk bands, Fortiez makes much of their music available for free download from their website, so I recommend heading to www.fortiez.com and downloading this little treat for your very own.

Paid In Full - Instumentally they seem to have it down. The beats and guitar sound godd, but they ruin their music by adding the vocals. The singer's timing just seems a little off and he seems to be trying to "sing" to hard and holding out notes longer then needed ect...I just couldn't get into them.  They just seem generic at best. Nothing that bad, but also nothing that good. If it was on in the backround at a party you wouldn't say to your drunk buddy "hey who's this?" for the good or the bad.

One Cent Spent - "Self Titled" One Cent Spent very much reminds me of the Pre-Fat music melodically poppy skate punk of the late 80's & early 90's. Great sing along chorus's much like the EARLY green day and Blink 182, before they hit the mainstream. Listening to them makes you remember that Green Day & Blink 182 were fun addictive bands that put out some great music. Unfortunately, through some research  I found out that this band has long since disbanded, but if you get a chance to check them out, their pretty good.

Dude the No Risk album is amazing. I love hearing a band that is void of cliche and trendiness. Just good old fashion kick you in the teeth music with an actual message. Not a bunch of bitching and moaning like emo bullshit. No Risk is definitely one of my favorite new bands!

Hey, thanks so much for the kind words... I'm surprised our CD turned up for you to review! I have been out of the loop for years, but after just now catching up and finding out about the fate of so many of my old favorite bands (surpising number of them have disbanded or have died), I thought I'd do a little googling on mine (one cent spent).

Glad to hear you liked it. Still surprised you stumbled on a CD, considering we had no distro or label. Must've gone to cheap thrills or Boo Boos Records in SLO?

If anybody wants a CD, I've got a special deal for you. I've got a stash in my basement (a couple hundred of them left). Shoot me an email and I'll send it out to you for the cost of shipping plus $0.01. (5 max per person)

Be patient, I don't check the address below very often.
