Band Reviews

The Living End - " State Of Emergency " - Alright I've never been a big Living End fan. They've done a few covers I enjoy "Who's gonna save us?" on "Modern Artillary" & "Tainted Love" isn't to bad of a cover. So when I got the newest disc "State of Emergency" sent from Adeline Records, I really didn't know what to expect. What we got was straight made for MTV CRAP! Holyshit can a band be anymore overproduced to sound like an American Idol produced, Greenday (21st century version) wanna-be band. Every song was complete shit, every note sounded computer enhanced and just awful. Someone needs to tell these guys to stop worrying about the image and put their effort towards good music.

O800 Ragu "Self Titled" - Bearing all the trademarks of youth combined with guitars and adrenaline. Embrace the concept of four mates leaping around in a basement trying to sound like their heroes as that is how so many great bands start.

However do not get too excited about the product coming out from these basement sessions. Unfortunately,it looks like they're one of those bands that only going to be recognized as a great band, only after it's too late. I've seen them described as " The Buzzcocks playing Alkaline Trio with a Yorkshire accent.", but those comparisons don't give them justice. The shame is that they weren't scared to have their own sound, like many bands of today are. They hold 1part street-punk, 1 part pop-punk, and 2 parts guts to make a GREAT sound. I really couldn't believe the sound I was hearing was high school kids. If you have the chance, pick up one of their CD's you will love it.

Since we have a bunch of new readers, we have three of our first reviews for your reading pleasure.

The Zatopeks "Ain't Nobody Left But Us"(Original Review 07/08/06) - One of the best bands around! The have a distinct 50's, finger snappin' doo-wop sound, but with the punk hooks. They tend to have some mellow talk-overs during the melody of the songs. I can't put my finger on it, but the English accent with the melody is mesmerizing. One song in particular I can't stop putting on repeat is "The Summer I Fell in Love With Jimmy's Girl", if you hear it you won't disagree! Aside from the music, you need to check out their pictures, two dudes in the band have some MASSIVE uni-brows. In a strange way these guys remind me a lot of The Queers, for no reason other than they are fucking amazing...

K-9 Chaos "For the Good of the Nation" (Original Review 07/08/06) - God Damn, these fucks are bad-ass! They have the old school late 80's punk sound. It's hard to compare them to any other band because the have their own sound. The song "Brick by Brick" made me want to go out and kick someone's ass, but then "Never Enough" was a little bit laid back and reminded me of old Rancid.  They have a new album out (available on www.interpunk.com ), "For the Good of the Nation". If you want some hard energy pumped punk rock check these fuckers out!

Mustache Ride "20 Leagues under the scene" (Original Review 07/08/06) - To be honest, I first decided to listen to them because of their name; the word mustache just makes me laugh. This Rhode Island crew has a lot of Folk Punk (Dropkick Murphy’s, The Pouges, Flogging Molly) influence and seems to be no stranger to bar room shows. Their singer, Emerson has one of the scratchiest voices that can hold a tune I have ever heard.  The coolest part is that they combine the folk sound with punk, but don't need to bagpipes to make it work. One of their songs "Blood in the Water" has a really catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head. Seems like a great party album!
